1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Confortevole

This 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce is one of a claimed 199 Confortevole examples produced and is said to have been acquired by Bob Mosier of Mosier Restoration in Los Angeles as a non-running project from a Southern California garage sale in the early 1990s. Following a repaint, chassis 1493E06539 was sold around 1997 and subsequently completed as part of a multi-year refurbishment finished between 2002 and 2003. Work is noted to have involved an interior re-trim by D’Alessandro Designs of Culver City and a rebuild of the a 1,290cc twin-cam inline-four by Engine Machine Service of Los Angeles. The engine breathes through dual Weber DCO3 carburetors and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and the car rides on 15″ steel wheels coupled with drum brakes and Koni shocks at all four corners. This 750E-series Sprint Veloce is now offered on dealer consignment by Wob—a BaT Local Partner—with a clean California title.

A more deluxe version of the contemporary Alleggerita (lightweight) variant, Confortevole (comfortable) models featured an all-steel body as well as additional interior trim, a heater, a glove box, and roll-up door windows.

The Bertone-styled bodywork of this example is believed to have been repainted in its current ivory finish in the 1990s. The car features a chrome-finished tripartite grille up front as well as fintail-style quarter panels out back, and further details include Carello headlamps, Bertone fender badging, and a driver-side mirror.

The 15″ steel wheels wear Alfa Romeo–branded hubcaps and are mounted with 155-width Michelin XZX tires. Stopping power is provided by drums at each corner, and Koni shocks have been added at all four corners.

An interior re-trim is said to have been performed by D’Alessandro Designs of Culver City, California, as part of the refurbishment project. The cabin houses low-back bucket seats with ivory cloth seating surfaces and black vinyl sides, while matching upholstery extends to the doors as well as the rear bulkhead and side panels. Further appointments include a dash-mounted mirror, pop-out pivoting rear glass, and Sprint Veloce–branded sill plates.

A black two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and sits ahead of a body-color dashboard. Veglia instrumentation consists of a central 8k-rpm tachometer with an inset oil pressure gauge flanked by a 140-mph speedometer and a combination gauge monitoring oil temperature, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, and the selling dealer tells us that total mileage is unknown.

The 1,290cc twin-cam inline-four was factory equipped with dual Weber 40 DCO3 carburetors and rated at 90 horsepower. The selling dealer states that the engine was rebuilt at Engine Machine Service of Los Angeles, California, in the course of the refurbishment project. A retrofitted Facet electric fuel pump is installed out back.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

A composite photo showing various identification markings on the car is shown above. The California title lists the VIN as 149306539 and carries a “Title Only” notation.
