This 1989 Oshkosh M-985 HEMTT is an eight-wheel-drive cargo vehicle that was produced for the US military and recently purchased out of Texas by the selling dealer. Power comes from a 12.1-liter Detroit Diesel 8V92TA two-stroke turbodiesel V8 linked to an Allison four-speed automatic transmission, a two-speed transfer case, and locking differentials. Equipment includes a cargo bed with fold-down sides as well as a hydraulic crane, rear outriggers, and 20” steel wheels. An extra cab and tires are included in the sale. This HEMTT is now offered by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, at no reserve in California with a clean Carfax report and a Texas title.
The M-985 is based on the Oshkosh Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) platform. This example wears faded camouflage paint and features a cargo bed with fold-down sides as well as a rear-mounted hydraulic crane and outriggers. Corrosion around the vehicle can be viewed in the image gallery below.
Ten-lug 20” steel wheels are wrapped in a mixed set of tires. A spare is carried behind the cab and can be raised and lowered using a winch boom that is stored in the cargo bed along with two extra tires.
The cabin houses a pair of high-back bucket seats with green cloth upholstery, suspension bases, and multi-point harnesses. A window in the driver’s footwell provides an additional view of the terrain.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a Dixson 80-mph speedometer and 3.5k-rpm tachometer as well as an array of auxiliary gauges. The six-digit odometer shows 4,200 miles, and an hour meter shows 308 hours.
The 12.1-liter Detroit Diesel 8V92TA turbodiesel V8 was factory rated at 435 horsepower and 1,242 lb-ft of torque. The selling dealer recommends servicing the fuel system.
Power is sent to the rear or all eight wheels through an Allison four-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and four locking differentials. Corrosion is visible on underbody components, which can be viewed in the gallery.
A palletized cab is included in the sale.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage.
The Texas title carries a “VIN Certification Waived” notation in the remarks section.
