L96-Powered 1975 Land Rover Range Rover 5-Speed

This 1975 Land Rover Range Rover was fitted with a 6.0-liter L96 V8 during a build carried out between 2021 and 2025 by Dutch Safari Co. in Buda, Texas. Finished in Bahama Gold over tan upholstery, it is also equipped with an NV3550 five-speed manual transmission, a Winchester Gears LT230 dual-range transfer case, Kingsley wheels, Bilstein shocks, air lockers, and a Retrosound stereo. This Range Rover is now offered on dealer consignment by a BaT Local Partner with build records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean California title.

The body panels were stripped to bare metal, straightened, and repainted in Bahama Gold during the build. Metalwork included repairing rust on the firewall, floors, transmission tunnel, and goalpost sections. The door skins, outer sills, and lower tailgate skin were replaced, and an aluminum-framed upper tailgate was fitted. Body rubbers, waist seals, and window channels were renewed alongside the installation of silver bumpers and overriders. Exterior details include scuttle badges, a driver-side bonnet mirror, dual front wipers, and a rear window wiper.

Silver 16″ Kingsley alloy wheels are mounted with 235/70 Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S tires. The suspension incorporates Bilstein shocks, refreshed shock turrets, and an overhauled rear center ball joint. A rebuilt steering box is connected to an electric Volvo pump, a panhard rod, and a steering damper. Stopping power is provided by servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes plumbed with nickel-copper lines. The calipers, rotors, pads, master cylinder, control valve, and parking brake assembly were all replaced during the build.

The front bucket seats and rear bench were reupholstered in tan, and the cushions and squab diaphragms were replaced. Bronze carpets line the cabin, rear cargo area, and wheel arches over sound-deadening insulation and rubber floor seals. The heater assembly was resealed to the bulkhead, and the heater core and blower motor were serviced. Interior appointments include a two-piece brushed cloth headliner, refurbished sun visors, custom shifter boots, three-point front seatbelts, a Retrosound digital stereo, and a hidden USB charging port mounted inside the glovebox.

A restored three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer along with gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The instrument cluster circuit board was repaired during the build, and the gauges were retrofitted with LED illumination. A vehicle speed sensor was installed alongside a speedometer cable, drive gear, and housing. Supplementary gauges in the center stack monitor oil pressure, oil temperature, and battery voltage. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The 6.0-liter L96 V8 was installed using custom mounts welded to the chassis. It is equipped with a Corvette intake manifold and fuel rails, ICT Billet brackets, and an aluminum intake tube with a fabricated airbox. Cooling is managed by an aluminum radiator equipped with dual electric fans and auxiliary front fans. The fuel tank, sending unit, high-pressure pump, and fuel lines were replaced during the conversion. Tubular exhaust headers feed into a custom stainless-steel exhaust system.

Power is sent to all four wheels through an NV3550 five-speed manual transmission and a Winchester Gears LT230 dual-range transfer case. The transmission is equipped with an updated clutch assembly, flywheel, and slave cylinder. The drivetrain is supported by custom-fabricated mounts, and the front and rear driveshafts were replaced. Pneumatic locking differentials are controlled via an onboard air compressor housed in a fabricated chassis enclosure. The axle swivels were resealed, and the front and rear differentials were serviced during the build.
