This replica of a Lotus 23B was constructed between 2013 and 2015 using a Kelvin Jones Motorsport fiberglass body attached to an Arch Motors spaceframe chassis that incorporates coilovers, rack-and-pinion steering, and four-wheel disc brakes with Girling calipers. Power is from a 1,702cc bored and stroked twin-cam inline-four equipped with forged pistons, sequential fuel injection with individual throttle bodies, a MoTeC ECU, and an SPD exhaust system. Finished in Colorado Orange, the car rides on 13″ magnesium wobbly web wheels and is further equipped with a Hewland five-speed manual transaxle, a Quaife limited-slip differential, bottom-hinged doors, roll hoops, a three-piece wrap-around windscreen, fixed-back bucket seats with Willans harnesses, and Stack instrumentation. This Lotus 23B replica is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a clean California title that lists the car as an SPCN with no model year.
The Arch Motors spaceframe chassis carries Kelvin Jones Motorsport fiberglass bodywork finished in Lotus Colorado Orange with decals for the center stripes and roundels. The car is equipped with twin covered headlights, turn signals, front and rear clamshell panels, bottom-hinged doors, a driver-side mirror, roll hoops, and a three-piece wrap-around plexiglass windscreen.
Black-finished 13″ magnesium wobbly-web wheels are secured with four lugs up front and six at the rear, and they are mounted with Avon ACB9 tires measuring 5.0/22.0 and 6.5/23.0, respectively. The car is equipped with Triumph Herald-spec rack-and-pinion steering, and the independent suspension features a Lotus 23C-style adjustable front anti-roll bar as well as coilovers with Hyperco springs and Koni 3012 dampers. Braking is handled by 9.57″ rotors with Girling calipers at all four corners. Girling brake and clutch fluid reservoirs are also fitted.
The right-hand-drive cockpit houses fixed-back bucket seats wrapped in black Kelvin Jones Motorsport covers with white piping along with matching headrests and Willans harnesses. Additional equipment includes a right-hand shifter, an SPA Design rearview mirror, and a 2.25-liter fire extinguisher mounted ahead of the passenger seat.
The three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel has a yellow Lotus center cap and sits ahead of Stack instrumentation consisting of gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, air-fuel mixture, and a multi-function 8k-rpm tachometer with readouts for speed, oil pressure, oil temperature, and battery voltage. The digital odometer shows 2,800 miles.
The rear-mounted inline-four was built by Marcovicci-Wenz Engineering of Ronkonkoma, New York, and its 701M ‘L’ block has been bored and stroked to displace 1,720cc. The sequential fuel injection system incorporates 45mm Borla individual throttle bodies and is controlled via a MoTeC M84 ECU. Additional build highlights include a SCAT Formula Ford crankshaft, dry-sump lubrication with a Titan oil pan and a five-port oil pump, MWE Rally camshafts, forged pistons, and a Denso 75-amp alternator. The aluminum integrated coolant/oil radiator is cooled by dual 7.5″ SPAL electric fans, and the exhaust system features an SPD Exhaust four-into-one stainless-steel header as well as a Burns stainless-steel muffler.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Quarter Master 7.25-inch clutch, a Hewland five-speed manual transaxle, a Quaife ATB limited-slip differential, CV joints, and Taylor driveshafts.
The car is titled in California using VIN SA9L23BY0DLKJM002, which is listed on the dash tag above.
The California BAR sticker is dated May 11, 2016 and lists SB-100 status.
