Jaguar C-Type Re-Creation by Realm Engineering

This Jaguar C-Type was constructed as a rolling chassis by Realm Engineering in Weston Subedge, England, in 2014 before being completed in the US with the installation of an overhauled 4.2-liter XK inline-six and a Toyota five-speed manual transmission. The car was listed on BaT in December 2022 before being purchased by its current owner. Featuring composite body panels finished in a blue Ecurie Ecosse-style livery, the car is equipped with triple Weber carburetors, four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes, four-wheel independent suspension, 16” wire wheels, side-exit exhaust, and red leather upholstery over fixed-back bucket seats. This C-Type re-creation is now offered on dealer consignment in California with photos and invoices from its construction, service invoices, and an Arizona title listing the car as a 1953 Jaguar.

The C-Type was developed as a competition variant of the XK120C and featured an aluminum body over a tubular frame. Approximately 50 examples were built, among them the 1951 and 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans winners.

This re-creation features composite bodywork over a powder-coated tubular steel frame with steel front bulkheads and aluminum floor panels. The body wears a blue livery inspired by the Jaguars campaigned by Ecurie Ecosse during the 1950s and features number-77 roundels and Ecurie Ecosse fender shields. Additional features include faired-in headlights, a louvered hood with leather retention straps, Brooklands-style windscreens behind a fixed plexiglass windshield, a bullet-style drive-side mirror, side-exit exhaust, and a Monza-style fuel-filler cap.

Silver-painted wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are wrapped in 185VR16 Pirelli Cinturato tires that were mounted in 2023. Stopping is handled by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear units.

The left-hand-drive cockpit features fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in red leather with color-matched upholstery over the center tunnel and sills. A shorter shifter with a wood knob was installed in 2023, and insulation was added to the firewall. Additional features include color-matched carpeting, Willans four-point harnesses, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, and a fire extinguisher.

The riveted-wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6,500-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 868 miles. The tachometer was rebuilt in 2023.

The 4.2-liter XK inline-six was overhauled prior to installation during the build approximately 10 years ago. The triple Weber carburetors were synced in 2023, at which time the fuel tank was repaired and the fuel-level sender was resealed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Toyota five-speed manual transmission. Four-wheel independent suspension incorporates adjustable coilover shock absorbers.

Images and invoices from the car’s construction are viewable in the photo gallery below, as are invoices from work performed in 2023.

Frame stamping 1ABS7XK120S000001 is shown above, and that number is listed as the VIN on the title.

There is currently a lien on the car, and the seller’s lender will need to be paid off before the title can be transferred to the new owner.
