307-Powered 1946 Willys-Overland CJ-2A

This 1946 Willys-Overland CJ-2A has been modified with the installation of a Chevrolet stroker V8 that displaces 307ci and is linked to a T-90 three-speed manual transmission with overdrive as well as a dual-range transfer case. Finished in white over replacement black vinyl seats, the vehicle is equipped with a Bestop soft top and doors, Dana differentials, Spicer front axles, a Saginaw steering conversion, chrome 15″ wheels, 31″ tires, a 12-volt electrical system, dual exhaust, a stainless-steel front bumper, a draw bar, a tow ball, a roll bar, an Ididit steering column, a Lecarra steering wheel, aftermarket gauges, red carpeting, and three-point seatbelts. This modified CJ-2A was purchased by the current owner in 2023 and is now offered in California on dealer consignment at no reserve with spare parts, uninstalled electric windshield wipers, extra paint, and a clean Utah title.

The CJ-2A—CJ being short for “Civilian Jeep”—was the first full-production CJ model created for non-military use, and it debuted in June 1945. This example has been repainted in white with black accents. Black wheel-arch extensions are positioned over the rear wheel wells. An agriculture draw bar anchors a tow ball. The windshield has swing-out glass and also can be folded forward to rest on wood blocks attached to the hood. Other features include a roll bar, dual taillights, a drop-down tailgate, side steps, and a stainless-steel front bumper. A black Bestop soft top with matching soft doors is shown fitted to the truck in the photo gallery below, which also depicts cosmetic imperfections.

Chrome 15″ wheels are mounted with 31×10.5″ Wild Country Radial XTX Sport tires. The truck is equipped with manually locking Warn front hubs, and stopping power is provided by drum brakes at all four corners. A GM Saginaw steering conversion has been adapted, as have Superlift leaf springs.

A pair of replacement front bucket seats is trimmed in black vinyl. Appointments include a body-color metal dashboard, patterned red carpeting, three-point seatbelts, and a passenger-side grab handle.

A Lecarra billet-aluminum steering wheel is perched on a chrome Ididit column. Aftermarket instrumentation consists of a 70-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 67k miles, and true mileage is unknown.

The Chevrolet small-block V8 was a 283ci unit that has been stroked to displace 307ci, the seller tells us. The engine is complemented by a 12-volt wiring harness and a fusebox as well as chrome rocker covers, an open-element air cleaner, a Mr. Gasket Co. fuel regulator, exhaust headers, and a side-exit dual exhaust system.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a T-90 three-speed manual transmission augmented by a Warn overdrive. The truck also has a dual-range transfer case, a Dana 25 front differential, Spicer front axles, and a Dana 41 rear differential.
