22-Years-Owned 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190SL

This 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was refurbished in the early 2000s and was acquired by the current owner in 2004. The car has been repainted Anthracite Gray Metallic over red leather and is powered by a 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black convertible soft top, 13″ steel wheels with body-color hubcaps, and a Becker AM/FM radio with Bluetooth connectivity. Work in 2024 involved replacing the fuel pump, fuel filter assembly, radiator, tires, and shift linkage bushings. This 190SL is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, with a Mercedes-Benz certificate, records, and a clean California title.

The car was finished from the factory in Silver Grey and was repainted Anthracite Gray Metallic during the aforementioned refurbishment. It is equipped with a black soft top, and a replacement top boot was installed in 2008.

Steel 13″ wheels wear chrome trim rings, hubcaps with body-color accents, and Goodrich Silvertown whitewall tires, which were mounted in 2024. The car is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension, rear swing axles with coil springs, and power-assisted drum brakes. The brake shoes were replaced, the wheel cylinders honed, and the drums turned in September 2023. A replacement left rear shock was installed in 2022.

The cabin features low-back bucket seats that have been reupholstered in red leather as well as matching door panels and dashboard trim. Replacement charcoal carpets were also installed during the refurbishment. The Becker AM/FM radio was reportedly refurbished by Becker USA and fitted with an external jack and Bluetooth connectivity. The shift linkage bushings were replaced in 2024.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 69k miles, which is not considered to be accurate.  Approximately 9k miles were added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.

The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four was factory rated at 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. A replacement radiator and thermostat housing were installed in November 2024. The fuel pump and filter assembly were also replaced that year. The seller tells us that the spark plugs were replaced and an oil change was performed in April 2026.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission.

The Mercedes-Benz Classic Zertifikat lists the original colors, component numbers, and options as well as a delivery date of October 16, 1958.
