This 1968 Fiat 500 is finished in blue over tan and white vinyl and is powered by an air-cooled 499cc inline-twin paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a folding canvas roof panel, 12″ steel wheels, front disc brakes, front and rear lap belts, a rear luggage rack, and a wicker picnic basket. The car was refurbished in Sicily in 2021 with work involving a repaint and an engine rebuild prior to being imported to the US in 2022. A subsequent mechanical overhaul was reportedly performed once the car arrived in the US. The body was stripped and repainted in its current shade of blue, and the interior tub and front trunk compartment were painted to match under previous ownership. Exterior features include a beige folding canvas roof panel, chrome bumpers with tubular front overriders, Carello headlights, a chrome driver-side mirror, and “Nuova 500” rear badging. A rear luggage rack is fitted with a wicker picnic basket secured by leather straps.
Silver-finished 12″ steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and are mounted with 125-section BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. Stopping power is provided by upgraded front disc brakes along with rear drums.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in tan vinyl with white upper backrest sections and white piping. Interior appointments include a body-color painted dashboard, tan carpeting protected by black rubber floor mats, a black center console tray, front and rear lap belts, a passenger grab handle, dash-mounted toggle switches, and a reproduction ‘Rodaggio’ (break-in) windshield decal.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-km/h Veglia Borletti speedometer with suggested shift points and warning lights for the generator, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 12k kilometers (~7k miles), approximately [TBD] of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The front trunk compartment houses a matching spare wheel and tire, a black-painted fuel tank, and a translucent brake fluid reservoir.
The air-cooled 499cc inline-twin was rebuilt in Sicily, and mid-refurbishment photos of the engine are provided in the gallery. A mechanical overhaul was performed following the car’s importation to the US, which included the installation of a larger-than-standard downdraft carburetor and an electronic ignition system. Additional features include a Fiat-branded dry air cleaner assembly, a red ignition coil, and MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor spark plug wires.
