This 1956 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 roadster was delivered new in Japan and subsequently made its way to the US, where it was fitted with a Le Mans engine modification kit in 1991. The car was offered on BaT in August 2021 and has since been wrapped in satin black. Power is provided by a 2,660cc inline-four, and equipment includes a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, black leather upholstery, knock-off wire wheels, a louvered hood secured with a leather tie-down strap, an adjustable windshield, a black soft top, driving lights, a heater, and a wood-rim steering wheel. Acquired by the owner in 2022, this 100 BN2 roadster is now offered at no reserve on their behalf with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate and a clean California title.
Previously finished in red and black, the upper bodywork was wrapped in satin black vinyl following the owner’s acquisition in 2022. Additional features include a louvered bonnet, an adjustable windshield, a leather bonnet tie-down, a black soft top, driving lights, a black vinyl wrapped rear bumper, and fender-mounted side mirrors.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are finished in black and wrapped in 165-series Firestone F560 tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. A trio of gauges has been added to the center console. The five-digit odometer shows 88k miles, and the total mileage is unknown.
The 2,660cc inline-four was reportedly fitted with 100M-style components during a 1991 refurbishment. They include larger SU carburetors and a higher-flow airbox with a Le Mans Modification Kit badge.
Engine stamping 1B/232253 matches the engine number listed on the BMIHT certificate below.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists distribution to a dealer in Yokohama, Japan, along with a build date of May 10, 1956, and the original colors, serial numbers, and equipment. The certificate is mounted in a frame with car show awards and photos taken during a 1991 refurbishment.
