Ex–Abarth & Cie 1965 Fiat-Abarth 1000 TC Berlina Corsa

This 1965 Fiat Abarth 1000 TC Berlina Corsa is noted to have been campaigned through the 1960s with the factory Abarth & Cie team, including by Arturo Merzario in the 1968 and 1969 runnings of the Four Hours of Monza. Following the 1970 season, chassis 210-1651 is said to have been put on display at various exhibits before being relocated in the late 1980s to South Africa, where it participated in various vintage racing events. It was later exported to Canada in the late 1990s and subsequently used on-track around the Pacific Northwest of the US. The car is finished in white with red graphics and features a front-mounted radiator as well as an open decklid cover. Power is provided by a 982cc Abarth inline-four linked with a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The race-prepped interior is fitted with a pair of low-back bucket seats trimmed in red vinyl accompanied by multi-point harnesses, a roll bar, and a wood-rimmed Personal steering wheel. Further equipment includes 13″ Campagnolo wheels, disc brakes, and a Weber dual-throat carburetor. This 1000 TC Berlina is now offered on dealer consignment with a copy of a Victory Lane magazine article featuring the car, a collection of records, and a clean California title.

Based on the contemporary Fiat 600D, the 850 and 1000 TC were developed by Abarth for Group 2 and later Group 5 touring car competition and built in varying specifications from 1961 to 1970.

This example is finished in white with a red checkered roof and side stripes along with various decals. It features a front-mounted radiator shroud and an open decklid cover that doubles as a rear spoiler. Additional exterior details include a single bullet-style side mirror, Carello headlights, windshield wipers, tow hooks, and twin exhaust tips.

Staggered-width 13″ Campagnolo wheels are finished in silver and mounted with Toyo Proxes RA1 tires that measure 185/60 up front and 205/60 out back. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.

The race-prepped cockpit houses a pair of low-back bucket seats trimmed in red vinyl, which extends to the door panels and driver’s headrest. Safety harnesses for both occupants are attached to a roll bar behind, and a fire extinguisher sits ahead of the gated shifter. A chrome Abarth-branded shift knob, a defroster, and a dash-mounted kill switch are further appointments.

The wood-rimmed Personal steering wheel has a MOMO horn button and fronts Abarth-branded Jaeger instrumentation including a 170-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. Supplementary Veglia Borletti gauges are mounted below the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 550 kilometers (~340 miles), and total mileage is unknown.

The 982cc Abarth OHV inline-four is outfitted with a single twin-choke Weber downdraft carburetor as well as an Abarth-branded finned valve cover and oil pan. The engine has been retrofitted with a dry-sump lubrication setup featuring an Accusump oil accumulator.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a synchronized five-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

A copy of a 2019 Victory Lane magazine article featuring the car is presented in the gallery along with a collection of included records.

Abarth chassis number 2101651 is stamped into the firewall and displayed on a reproduction data plate, while Fiat chassis number 100D1965262 appears on a separate tag that can be viewed in the gallery. The latter is listed as the VIN on the current California title.
