1952 Citroen Traction Avant 15 Six

This 1952 Citroën 15 Six Berline is a European-market example that was imported to the US in the 1970s and is said to have remained with the same family for several decades. A refurbishment carried out circa 2008 involved repainting the body in maroon and black, refinishing the exterior and interior brightwork, and re-trimming the interior in taupe velour. Additional work performed at Dave Burnham’s Citroën of Delanson, New York, included rebuilding the 2.9-liter inline-six and the three-speed manual transaxle as well as overhauling the brakes and suspension. Following the current owner’s acquisition in 2023, the car was exhibited at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, as well as the Best of France and Italy, where it received the Best French Car award. This 15 Six is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a binder of service records, a workshop manual, a car cover, tools, and a clean California title.

The car was repainted in maroon with a black spare tire cover and black fenders during the aforementioned refurbishment, and the exterior brightwork was refinished. Details include a tilt-out windshield, chrome headlight housings, rear-hinged front doors, semaphores, cast aluminum stone guards, louvered hood panels, and supplementary cooling doors on either side of the grille.

Steel 400mm wheels are finished in maroon and cream, and they wear polished hubcaps. The 165-series Michelin X tires show 2023 production date codes. The torsion-bar suspension features independent front wishbones and rear trailing arms linked to a beam axle and a panhard bar. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums.

The cabin was stripped, and undercoating was applied to the floors before sound-deadening material was added to the firewall, floors, and the lower sections of the doors. The reclining front seats, rear sofa, and door panels were reupholstered in taupe velour, and color-coordinated carpets were installed. The dashboard fascia and window frames wear a woodgrain finish, and bright trim has been added along with a double-chevron emblem.

The replacement 2.9-liter inline-six was sourced from a 15/6 H and is said to have been installed in the 1960s. It was rebuilt in 2008 at Dave Burnham’s Citroën of Delanson, New York, and a PerTronix electronic ignition conversion kit was installed. Induction is through a single Solex 30 PAAI carburetor.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a three-speed manual transaxle, which was also rebuilt in 2008. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery.

The Citroën Heritage certificate indicates that the car was dispatched on March 13, 1952, and lists factory specifications and identification numbers.

A binder of records will accompany the car along with a workshop manual, a car cover, a set of mud flaps, and tools.
