2017 Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo Race Car

This 2017 Ferrari 488 Challenge was retrofitted under previous ownership with an Evo package that features aerodynamic elements, revised ABS and traction-control systems, a redesigned steering wheel, and a rearview camera system. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.9L V8 paired with a seven-speed F1 dual-clutch transaxle, it also has Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, 19” Motegi Racing center-lock wheels, a lightweight exhaust, and a fire suppression system. Its race-prepped interior is equipped with a single carbon-fiber bucket seat, a Sabelt cam-lock harness, a multi-function steering wheel, a roll cage, a pit-to-car radio, a push-to-drink system, and air conditioning. This 488 Challenge Evo race car is offered by the selling dealer in California on a bill of sale.

The 488 Challenge was introduced in 2017 as the sixth model to compete in Ferrari’s single-make racing series. The revised Challenge Evo specification debuted in 2019 and was made available for earlier 488 Challenge cars as a retrofit package that makes the car 30% more aerodynamic, according to Ferrari. Updated components included:

  • U-shaped center intake for increased airflow to the brakes
  • Spoilers under the wing mirrors that direct more air to the intercooler intakes
  • Front splitter and canards
  • Revised rear diffuser
  • Rear bumper with rear wheel and engine bay vents for increased cooling

Details of the car’s livery are contrasted by a white wrap on the body, and 2022 inspection stickers from Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Sonoma Raceway are noted on the left side. Dual quick-fill fuel fittings, a Lexan engine cover, and an adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing are additional components.

Center-locking 19″ Motegi Racing forged alloy wheels are mounted with 275/675 front and 315/705 rear Pirelli tires. Stopping power is provided by Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers over Evo-package carbon-ceramic discs. The ABS and traction-control systems can be adjusted via dials on the dash and steering wheel.

The cabin has a roll cage over a single fixed-back bucket seat with a carbon-fiber shell and a Sabelt cam-lock harness. Additional equipment includes a dash-mounted rearview camera display, a fire-suppression system, a push-to-drink system, and air conditioning.

Fronting a configurable digital instrument cluster, the Formula-style steering wheel has LED shift lights in addition to driver switchgear and controls, which complement those found on the Challenge-specific center stack. The odometer indicates 22k kilometers (~13k miles).

The twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter Tipo F154 V8 is a lightened version of the powerplant used in the contemporary 488 GTB. In Challenge cars the engine was also equipped with a lightened exhaust system and revised engine-management software for a factory-rated output of 661 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque.

It drives the rear wheels through a short-ratio seven-speed F1 dual-clutch transaxle, which features Challenge-specific shift programming as well as an electronic limited-slip differential.

The car has a 17-character VIN, but it does not have a title and is being offered on a bill of sale. The vehicle has not passed a California emissions test.
