Euro 1964 Citroen Ami 6

This 1964 Citroën Ami 6 is a European-market model that is said to have spent time in the UK before being relocated to Canada circa 2016. It was subsequently acquired by the current owner and imported to the US in 2020. Finished in yellow with a white roof, the front-wheel-drive sedan rides on a fully independent suspension and is powered by an air-cooled 602cc flat-twin paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. The seats have been re-trimmed in patterned blue cloth and paired with retrofitted three-point seatbelts, and a center stop light and Robri trim have been added outside. Worked performed in 2021 at MARRS Automotive of Santa Clarita, California, involved overhauling the drum brakes as well as replacing the throttle and choke cables. This Ami 6 is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with literature, service records, and a clean California title listing it as a 1963 model.

Styled by Flaminio Bertoni, the Ami 6 debuted in 1961 and shared its chassis with the contemporary 2CV, though its air-cooled flat-twin was enlarged to a displacement of 602cc. This example is finished in yellow with a white roof, and Robri trim pieces have been added to the front fenders. Further details include a raked rear window, a tubular grille guard, European-specification lighting, and sliding side windows. A center stop light is mounted to the rear parcel shelf, and a backup light has also been installed. Cracked paint along the body seams can be viewed in the gallery.

Steel 15” wheels wear full covers and are mounted with 135-series Toyo 310 tires. The suspension features independent swingarms with inertia dampers and longitudinally mounted spring cylinders serving the front and rear wheel on each side. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums, and the front wheel cylinders were replaced in 2021 along with the rear hard line and flex lines.

The bench seats have been reupholstered in blue patterned cloth, and three-point inertia-reel seatbelts have been added for four occupants. The door panels are trimmed in gray vinyl with contrasting armrests and edging, while the floors are lined with replacement blue carpets. Discoloration and irregularities on the door panels can be viewed in the gallery.

The single-spoke steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation consisting of a 120-km/h speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 62k kilometers (~39k miles).

The air-cooled 602cc flat-twin is equipped with a single carburetor and aluminum valve covers. A spare tire is stored in the engine compartment along with a lug wrench. The throttle and choke cables were replaced in 2021.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.

A German-language owner’s manual will accompany the car along with postcards, brochures, and a binder of service records that can be viewed in the gallery. A spare air filter element and vehicle fluids are also included in the sale.

The vehicle is available to be seen by appointment in Thousand Oaks, California at WOB Cars, your definitive source for collector cars.
