1963 Jaguar XKE Series I 3.8 Coupe 5-Speed

This 1963 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the current owner on BaT in November 2023, and work under previous ownership involved a repaint in metallic burgundy, a refresh of the tan interior, and the installation of a five-speed manual gearbox. Power is provided by a 3.8-liter inline-six, and the car is equipped with triple SU carburetors, an aluminum radiator, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, enclosed headlights, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a Blaupunkt push-button radio, and a heater. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered in California on dealer consignment with refurbishment photos, related literature, and a Texas title.

The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers, and additional equipment includes a louvered clamshell hood, triple windshield wipers, dual side mirrors, a side-hinged rear hatch, and dual exhaust outlets. This example was finished from the factory in Opalescent Golden Sand, and it was refinished in metallic burgundy during the refurbishment under prior ownership.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 205/70 Pirelli P4 All Season tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in beige leather with burgundy piping, which is complemented by burgundy carpets. Appointments include lap seatbelts, a heater, a cigar lighter, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel shows cracks and frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer. Auxiliary gauges are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 92k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and has been fitted with an aluminum radiator and electric fan. Factory-rated output was 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.

The current Texas title carries a “VIN Certification Waived” notation.
