This 1993 Mercedes-Benz 290GD was refurbished and modified in Europe prior to being imported to the US in 2023 and subsequently purchased by the current owner on BaT in November 2023. Work included a body-off repaint in Graphite Gray and reupholstering the interior in tan and black leather, along with the installation of a modified 3.0-liter OM606 turbodiesel inline-six, a replacement five-speed manual transmission, a front-mount intercooler, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Additional features include a 2″ Ironman 4×4 American suspension lift, 16″ steel wheels with 35″ tires, a Warn front winch, a Kangaroo front bumper, a rear ladder, LED lighting, and a touchscreen stereo. This modified W461 290GD is now offered in California on dealer consignment with recent service records, a winch remote, and a clean Ohio title in the name of the owner’s LLC.
The body was finished from the factory in Arctic White (9147) and during the refurbishment was removed from the frame, rust repair was performed, and it was repainted in Mercedes Graphite Gray (818). A Kangaroo front bumper, a Warn winch, a front skid plate, and a front brush guard were also installed, along with LED headlights and taillights, running boards, and a rear ladder.
Black-finished 16″ steel wheels are mounted with 35×12.50″ Journey Claw XTR tires, and a matching spare is housed on the rear cargo door. An Ironman 4×4 America 2″ suspension lift has been installed. The brake system was overhauled during the build, including replacing the front rotors, rear drums, master cylinder, and lines. Power steering components were also replaced at that time.
The front bucket seats and rear bench have been reupholstered in tan leather with black accents and patterned stitching that extends to the door panels. Sound deadening material was added to the cabin during the build, along with a microsuede headliner and a touchscreen head unit with a JBL sound system. Additional equipment includes air conditioning, a leather-trimmed dashboard, and manual windows. The seat belt pretensioners were rebuilt and the belts were replaced in January 2024.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 180-km/h speedometer as well as gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. A boost gauge is mounted on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. The five-digit odometer shows 26k kilometers (~16k miles), approximately 750 of which were added under current ownership. The Carfax report notes a mileage inconsistency in November 2023, and a Not Actual Mileage title was issued in Ohio to the current owner in December 2023. Total mileage is unknown.
The cargo area features two inward-facing bench seats upholstered in tan leather.
The 3.0-liter OM606 turbodiesel inline-six was reportedly sourced from a 1997 year-model Mercedes and was installed during the build. It features a modified turbocharger, an external wastegate, a front-mount intercooler, 110cc fuel injectors, a modified Bosch fuel pump, an FMIC Pro Performance air intake, and a custom oil pan and exhaust manifold. The radiator was replaced and an oil change was performed in December 2023.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a replacement five-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and front and rear locking differentials. An aftermarket clutch and a custom 3″ stainless-steel exhaust system have been installed.
The Carfax report shows entries beginning in 2023, and it lists the aforementioned mileage inconsistency and a Not Actual Mileage title issued.
The Ohio title carries a “Non-Actual Warning: Odometer Discrepancy” mileage notation.
