This 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was owned by a single family until it was acquired by the current owner on BaT in September 2022. A 2016 refurbishment at Oldtimer Restoration Center of Harvard, Massachusetts, included rebuilding the engine, front suspension, and brakes along with repainting the body in Graphite Grey and retrimming the interior in Natural leather. Power is from a 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes tinted plexiglass sun visors, dual Solex carburetors, and 13″ steel wheels with body-color hubcaps. The car was offered again on BaT in August 2023, and work since then has included polishing and replating the interior brightwork, replacing the dome light, performing a paint correction, and installing a black soft top. This 190SL is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with a 1957 invoice, an owner’s manual, service records, and a clean California title assigned to the owner’s trust.
The body was stripped and refinished in Graphite Grey during the refurbishment, and a black soft top was installed in 2024. Exterior features include bright wheel-arch trim and polished gravel guards as well as chrome bumpers with overriders. A paint correction was also performed in 2024.
Painted 13″ steel wheels wear chrome trim rings, hubcaps with body-color accents, and 185/75 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The car is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension as well as a rear swing axle setup with coil springs. The suspension and power-assisted drum brakes were rebuilt as part of the 2016 refurbishment.
The low-back bucket seats have been reupholstered in natural leather that extends to the dash and door panels. A VDO clock is mounted to the glovebox door, and additional features include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, tinted plexiglass sun visors, rubber floor mats, and a carpeted rear storage area. The auxiliary power outlet, the upper-left temperature adjustment lever, and both right side levers do not work. Service since the 2023 BaT auction has included refurbishing and polishing the rearview mirror, polishing the gauge bezels, and replacing the dome light.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 76k miles, less than 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four breathes through twin Solex carburetors. Rebuilds of the engine and carburetors are said to have been carried out during the 2016 refurbishment.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission.
A 1957 sales invoice from Russ Sceli, Inc. notes the chassis and engine number as well as a total price of $5,024.10. An owner’s manual and service records will accompany the car and can be viewed in the gallery.
