This 52′ Los Angeles-class pilot boat was manufactured in 1995 by Willard Marine of Anaheim, California, and was acquired by its current owner in 2024. The aluminum deck and superstructure are bonded to a red-finished fiberglass hull that houses a V-berth, a head, and a galley with a sink and a refrigerator. Twin Detroit Diesel inline-six engines send power to the propellors through forward-reverse transmissions, and equipment includes a radar, a depth sounder, an Automatic Identification System (AIS), a 24-volt electrical system, a two-phase inverter, and an electric davit. This Los Angeles-class pilot boat is now offered on dealer consignment with a November 2023 survey and a clean California title.

Two high-speed pilot boats were commissioned by the Port of Los Angeles following an expansion of the boarding area for large ships entering and exiting the port. The Los Angeles-class vessels were designed by naval architecture firm C. Raymond Hunt Associates of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and they were built in 1995 by Willard Marine of Anaheim, California. The welded aluminum deck and superstructure are bonded to a red-finished fiberglass hull with an overall length of 52′, a beam of 16′, and a draft of 4′ 8″. The boat’s gross tonnage is 39 tons, and it displaces approximately 47k pounds. A November 2023 survey notes scrapes on the hull’s topsides and transom.

A hatch on the foredeck provides access to a compartment containing a 45-pound Danforth-style anchor with chain and line rode. Cleats, handrails, and ventilation pipes are welded to the deck which is surfaced with black non-skid pads over unpainted aluminum.

The wheelhouse features a helm mounted aft of a dash that houses twin forward-reverse controls as well as instrumentation including a radar display, a chart plotter, a depth sounder, and dual engine monitors. The vessel can be piloted from either the wheelhouse or from an exterior helm located on the aft deck. The survey states that the port-side engine monitor is not functional, and its total operating runtime is unknown. The starboard engine shows 14k hours.

Crew seating in the wheelhouse consists of eight seats that are upholstered in black vinyl.

The galley is located to starboard and is equipped with a stainless-steel countertop, storage compartments, a sink, and a Norcold refrigerator. Opposite the galley is a head with an electric toilet and a sink. The forward V-berth houses a bed, seating, and tables.

Each Detroit Diesel 60-Series inline-six drives a propeller through a Detroit Diesel forward-reverse transmission and a 2.5″ stainless-steel shaft. The engines are equipped with emergency control panels, Racor water separators, and keel cooling. The engine room features a ventilation blower, a high-water alarm, a fire-suppression system, and both electric and engine-driven bilge pumps. Five engine replacements have reportedly been carried out since the boat was launched in 1995.

The 125-volt AC electrical system is fed by a shore-power cord and a 50-amp inlet, while the 24-volt DC system is powered by twelve six-volt lead-acid batteries contained within the engine room. Other electrical equipment includes two battery chargers and a Blue Sea Systems inverter.

A 650-gallon fuel tank and a black-water holding tank are located below the aft deck which features an outdoor helm, an electric davit, a safety net, and lazarettes to port and starboard.

The boat is currently in the water, and the November 2023 survey did not include an exterior inspection below the waterline. The vessel is titled in California and documented with the United States Coast Guard with its International Maritime Organization (IMO) number 1035058.
