We had no reservations about how quickly the bidding would go on this fifties classic when we decided to auction it up last week. The 190SL not only represents a pinnacle period of Mercedes engineering but is also terminally pretty from every angle. The bidding ended yesterday at a respectable $70,000 (plus fees), and the buyer could not be more pleased with their purchase. The Fire Engine Red with tan leather hide interior 190SL may not be original to the 1958 options it came with but are in good condition with only a few flaws in the finish and the leather and carpet are clean and well-kept. Adding to the magnetism of the Mercedes is the new large window removable hardtop that conceals the original white folding top. Even more enticing to the buyer was the Cooper whitewall tires that add a touch of contrast below the belt line.
Additionally, the previous owner had performed a carburetor adjustment on the dual side-draft Webers along with a refresh to all of the fluids before listing it. A clean California title and a copy of the original window sticker that showcases a matching engine number were included with the sale. All we look forward to now is seeing that lovely red sports car out on the coast, cruising the highways and catching the rays!
