Sultry Slate Grey Carrera Slated for Auction – 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2

During the closing years of the 1980s, Porsche had been preparing a changing of the guard for their famous 911 line up. The introduction of the new 964 model heralded many advancements that drastically updated the 911 for the upcoming nineties. When finally launched in 1989, the 964 was sleeker, more powerful, and better equipped to cope with the current batch of competitors. Within the next few days we will be auctioning off a prime example with a select amount of choice modifications that delicately improve upon the already exceptional 964 platform – here are some of the details.

The exterior is covered in the optional Slate Grey Metallic paint that was the modern interpretation of a classic color offered during the primordial years of the original 911. Although the car has been refinished in several areas and a door panel repaired after damages, the paint is still crisp and professional. Mille Miglia has reproduced versions of Porsche’s exclusive Cup 1 17” staggered width wheels, and four are fitted with new (2018 date code) Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. The new owner will also benefit from a brand-new windshield since the currently installed glass has suffered a rock strike.

Cabin accommodations include Silk Grey leather over the front and rear seats. The front seats are eight-way adjustable and only show slight signs of use. Offsetting the light carpeting and leather is a black vinyl dashboard, black leather-wrapped steering wheel, and customized plush black floor mats. Modifications inside include an RS short-throw shifter with a new black leather shift knob and a 993-generation radio with built-in CD player. The odometer currently shows 147,000 miles have been run up since first purchased in Utah nearly thirty years ago.

Aside from the exterior revisions, the engine of the 964 saw the greatest augmentation. Now up to 3.6-liters from the air-cooled flat-six, zero-to-sixty only took less than seven seconds thanks to 250 horsepower. Our example, at 90,000 miles had its motor rebuilt and reinstalled with RS mounts, a lightweight RS A/C pulley, and a muffler was deleted – restoring some of that classic Porsche sound. A five-speed manual transmission controls power sent only to the rear wheels for this 911. Other modifications include KW V3 coilovers that were custom built for a lower ride height with stock damping/rebound. Tarett Engineering supplied shock absorber mounts up front, camber plates all around, and monoball spring plates on the rear trailing arms. Cross-drilled brake rotors with new pads were installed in 2018.

The 964 is coming to auction soon with its factory manuals, informational material, original spare tire, and tire inflation kit. All of the service records from the most recent ownership will be provided too. A Carfax report detailing the single accident and history from its original purchase in Utah until now shows regular care. Lastly, a clean California title is guaranteed. Keep checking in for the auction to go live!
