Sneak Peak of the Spyder – 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Spyder

The mid-nineties was a golden era for Japanese sports cars. Mitsubishi, at that time, was also riding high and making waves as an avant-garde manufacturer. No car they made showed their enthusiasm for technological innovation as much as the 3000GT VR4 sports car. The VR4 was Mitsubishi’s champion designed to compete with the likes of Acura’s NSX, Toyota’s Supra, and Nissan’s Skyline. Creating a car that was capable of taking down each of them involved combining many of those cars assets for success into the VR4. As such, it had all-wheel drive, turbocharging, digital interfaces, active aerodynamics, four-wheel steering, active exhaust controls, and much more! Unfortunately, by 1996, much of the technological wizardries had disappeared. However, Mitsubishi, one year before, authorized the creation of a hard-top Spyder version that – thanks to its extremely limited numbers – is exceptionally rare to find and therefore a jewel to behold. Amazingly enough, coming next week to our auction block is a pristine example of the era when Mitsubishi made the only available hard-top convertible since the 1950’s, and one with 320 horsepower plus a lot of new-age technology to boot! With only 84 Spyders manufactured in that final year, the wow-factor of such a machine cannot be understated – so do not miss out.
