This 1970 Volkswagen Beetle underwent a refurbishment and modification process approximately 20 years ago and was acquired by the selling dealer in 2025. Power comes from a turbocharged 2,533cc air-cooled flat-four that utilizes a Type 4 engine case fitted with a Bernie Bergmann 76mm crankshaft, Pauter billet connecting rods, 103mm JE forged pistons, Headflow Masters-modified cylinder heads, and Weber 48 IDF carburetors. The body is reportedly finished in Porsche Cobalt Blue and features body-color bumpers and running boards, widened fiberglass fenders, and one-piece front windows, while the interior is trimmed in black leather and incorporates a MOMO steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, a Bugpack trigger shifter, and a Blaupunkt CD stereo and speakers. Additional details include 17″ Turbo-look wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, dropped spindles, an adjustable front axle beam, heavy-duty front and rear sway bars, a CSP torque bar, and a five-speed manual transaxle with a Quaife limited-slip differential and a 3.88:1 ring and pinion. This modified Beetle is now offered with build documents, a car cover, and a clean West Virginia title.
The car is said to be finished in Porsche Cobalt Blue and features shaved trim, body-color bumpers and running boards, and earlier-style front fenders, which were widened by 2”, while the rears received an additional 3″ of width. Exterior details include one-piece front windows, tinted windows, Cal Look window rubber, body-color bumpers, Porsche-style headlight lenses, and bumper-mounted front turn signals.
The 17″ Turbo-look wheels measure 7.5″ and 9″ in width and are mounted with 215/40 front and 245/40 rear Continental ContiSportContact tires. The car has been fitted with CB Performance four-wheel disc brakes, dropped spindles, an adjustable front axle beam, urethane bushings, heavy-duty front and rear sway bars, and a CSP torque bar.
Inside, a pair of bolstered bucket seats trimmed in black leather have been installed and are joined by a matching rear bench seat as well as a color-coordinated dashboard pad, door panels, and headliner. Interior elements include a Bugpack trigger shifter, front shoulder belts, and a Blaupunkt CD stereo and speakers.
The MOMO Monte Carlo steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 100-mph speedometer with an inset fuel-level in addition to a clocked tachometer and readouts for boost pressure, cylinder head temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 1,200 miles. The seller states the mileage is not accurate, and total mileage is unknown.
A Type 4 engine case was sourced from a 1976 Volkswagen Bus and modified to displace 2,533cc using a Bernie Bergmann 76mm crankshaft, Pauter billet connecting rods, 103mm JE forged pistons, and Headflow Masters-modified cylinder heads with 38mm intake and 48mm exhaust valves, dual valve springs, and solid rocker spacers. Additional details include:
- Garrett T04 Turbocharger
- Weber 48 IDF carburetors
- Race-Tech Engineering case and head studs
- Straight-cut cam gears
- Porsche-style cooling fan kit
- Ceramic-coated glasspack muffler
- Kennedy 12.5lb flywheel
- Kennedy Stage 2 pressure plate
The transaxle utilizes an aluminum Rhino case that has been fitted with a Gene Berg five-speed conversion, a Quaife limited-slip differential, a 3.88:1 ring and pinion, billet side covers, a heavy-duty racing cross shaft and release arm, Sway-A-Way torsion axles, and a hydraulically-actuated clutch.
