This 1961 Porsche 356B coupe was picked up via European Delivery by its original California-based owner and was modified in Outlaw style in the late 1990s. The car is powered by a replacement 1600SC flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Silver Metallic over green leather upholstery. Features include 15 x 5.5” steel wheels, Marchal driving lights, a Stinger-style exhaust, leather hood straps, plexiglass windows, a roll bar, GT-style seats, rally timers, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This 356B coupe was acquired by the current owner in 2023 and is now offered on dealer consignment with the owner’s manual and a clean California title.
The T5 body was introduced for the 1960 model year with revised front-end styling, including raised bumpers and headlights along with a redesigned front trunk lid handle. This Reutter-built example came finished from the factory in Silver Metallic (6006) and was repainted in the 1990s. A lightweight hood and leather straps were added during the build, along with mesh headlight grilles, plexiglass side and rear windows, a through-hood fuel filler, GT-style mirrors and bumper trim, Pegasus decals, and a louvered decklid.
The 15×5.5″ offset steel wheels are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires measuring 175/70. The car was factory equipped with drum brakes at each corner. Rear wheel spacers and a steering damper were added during the build along with Boge/Sachs shocks.
The fixed-back front bucket seats are upholstered in green leather and fitted with latch-and-link lap belts. A roll bar has been added behind the seats, and additional appointments include green squareweave carpets, a fire extinguisher, aluminum pedal covers, and a radio blanking plate.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames green-letter VDO instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,200-rpm redline as well as a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. Sinn rally stopwatches have been added to the glovebox door. The five-digit odometer on this 1961 Porsche 356B shows 14k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The 1.6-liter flat-four was sourced from a 1964 356SC and was reportedly built with a polished 912 crankshaft, a high-performance camshaft, and replacement pistons and cylinders. The engine is said to have been refreshed in 2017 by Vic Skirmants of 356 Enterprises.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual transaxle with shorter gear ratios. A Stinger-style center-exit exhaust was installed during the build.
The Kardex lists the factory colors and serial numbers along with a build date of September 23, 1960.
