Ex–Lyndon B. Johnson 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible

This 1964 Lincoln Continental convertible was sold new to The LBJ Co. of Austin, Texas, and used by President Lyndon B. Johnson at his central-Texas ranch. It is finished in Arctic White over beige leather upholstery and powered by a 430ci V8 paired with a dual-range three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-operated white convertible soft top, a power-adjustable front seat, air conditioning, vacuum-operated door locks, rear-hinged rear doors, and an AM/FM radio. The car reportedly underwent refurbishment work in the early 2000s and was acquired by the current owner on BaT in November 2022. This Continental convertible is offered on dealer consignment in California with previous ownership records, Presidential memorabilia, and a Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC.

The Elwood Engel-designed fourth-generation Continental underwent a mid-cycle refresh for the 1964 model year that included a longer 126″ wheelbase, chrome vertical grille accents, a revised rear deck-lid trim panel, and a relocated fuel filler door on the left quarter panel. This example was finished in Arctic White from the factory and reportedly repainted under prior ownership. Exterior details include a power-retractable white convertible soft top, a retractable antenna, a left-side mirror, rear-hinged rear doors, and chrome bumpers, window surrounds, and lower side moldings. A removable magnet indicating President Johnson’s ownership will accompany the car.

Steel 15″ wheels wear polished covers and are mounted with General narrow-whitewall tires. Power steering was standard, and braking is provided by power-assisted front and rear drums.

The cabin is said to have been refurbished and features front and rear bench seats trimmed in beige leather with matching door panels. Appointments include a power-adjustable front seat, folding center armrests, air conditioning, power windows, vacuum-operated power door locks, and an AM/FM radio.

The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a horizontal-sweep 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer on Lyndon B. Johnson’s Lincoln Continental shows 26k miles and approximately 70 miles were driven under current ownership. The first digit is said to have incorrectly rolled over, and the total mileage is unknown.

The 430ci V8 was factory equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and rated at 320 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a dual-range three-speed automatic transmission and a rear axle with 2.89:1 gearing.

Historical documentation, photos, and dealer paperwork showing original purchase by the LBJ Corporation will accompany the car.
