Ex-CHP 1982 Dodge Ramcharger 4×4

This 1982 Dodge Ramcharger 4×4 is said to have been used by the California Highway Patrol around Eureka, California, and is powered by a 318ci V8 linked to a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The truck is finished in black and white with a CHP livery over tan vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a light bar, halogen spotlights, a push bar, a diamond-plate rear bumper, B-pillar grab handles, a Regency scanner, a Motorola two-way radio, a roll bar, and air conditioning. This AW-100 Ramcharger is now offered by the selling dealer with a Carfax report and a California title.

The truck is finished in black with white doors and roof panels, and California Highway Patrol graphics adorn both side doors and the rear hatch. Exterior equipment includes an AeroDynic light bar, dual GE halogen A-pillar spotlights, B-pillar grab handles, a whip antenna, a red grille light, auxiliary front side-marker lights, dual side mirrors, wraparound rear side windows, and a roof vent. The chrome front bumper is augmented by a black push bar, and a diamond-plate bumper is found at the rear of the vehicle. Photos in the gallery below show spots where the clearcoat has peeled. The truck is missing one windshield wiper and the wiper for the tailgate. The rear-window defroster is detached and inoperable. An unspecified incident of damage is documented on the Carfax report in May 2020.

Black 15″ steel wheels with bright hubcaps are mounted with 31×10.5″ Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the truck has manually locking front hubs. The power-steering system leaks.

The front bucket and rear bench seats are trimmed in tan vinyl. Interior appointments include a Regency Touch M100 scanner, a CHP-branded Motorola two-way radio, auxiliary toggle switches, textured vinyl flooring, a roll bar, and air conditioning.

The steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer and gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer indicates 60k miles, and true mileage is unknown. The Carfax report reflects a “potential odometer rollover” in May 2017.

The cargo area contains a full-size spare tire, a locking storage compartment, and a wooden medical stretcher.

The 318ci V8 was factory equipped with a four-barrel carburetor. The truck passed California emissions testing most recently in October 2019.

Power is routed to the rear or all four wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case.
