Euro 1982 Mercedes-Benz 500SE

This European-market 1982 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL was reportedly imported to the US in 2012, and it has been retrofitted with three-piece 17″ AMG wheels, an AMG body kit, an AMG steering wheel, H&R lowering springs, and Bilstein shocks. It is powered by a 5.0-liter M117 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in black over Sienna Red leather upholstery. Equipment includes a power-operated sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, and automatic climate control. Service in May 2023 including changing the fluids and replacing the battery, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, plug wires, left rear brake caliper, and two brake hoses. Acquired by the current owner on BaT in September 2023, this W126 is now offered on dealer consignment in California with manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Ohio title in the name of the owner’s LLC.

The car is finished in black and features AMG lower bodywork, an AMG trunk-lid badge, blacked-out trim, tinted windows, a sunroof, and twin AMG-branded exhaust outlets. The front and rear bumpers were repainted under previous ownership. Paint imperfections are visible on the rear bumper cover under the left taillight.

Three-piece 17″ O.Z./AMG Aero III wheels are mounted with 245/45 front and 275/40 rear Sumitomo HTR Z5 tires, while a steel spare is stowed in the trunk. H&R lowering springs and Bilstein shock absorbers were installed in 2023. The left-rear brake caliper and two brake hoses were replaced in May 2023.

The cabin is trimmed in Sienna Red leather with wood veneer accents on the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Amenities include a leather-wrapped AMG steering wheel, automatic climate control, cruise control, a folding center armrest, and a rear window defroster. The Becker radio is inoperative.

The leather-wrapped AMG steering wheel frames a retrofitted 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, an analog clock, and gauges for instant fuel economy, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer is inoperative and shows 83k miles. Total mileage on this 1982 Mercedes-Benz 500SE is unknown.

The 5.0-liter M117 features Bosch Jetronic fuel injection. Service in May 2023 included changing the fluids, repairing one of the resonators, and replacing the distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, plug wires, and battery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
