959-Style 1977 Porsche 911S Rally Car Tribute

This 1977 Porsche 911S Coupe was refurbished and modified under previous ownership in the style of a Porsche 959 rally car. Work involved fitting 959-style fiberglass bodywork as well as vinyl-wrapping the car in white and blue with a Rothmans-style #185 livery inspired by the 959 driven by Jacky Ickx and Claude Brasseur at the 1985 Paris-Dakar Rally. Power is provided by a replacement 3.2-liter flat-six that drives the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Additional equipment includes Braid 16″ alloy wheels, Toyo all-terrain tires, Elephant Racing lifted suspension components, Lexan headlight covers and side windows, roof-mounted beacon lights, a roll cage, fixed-back racing seats, and Corbeau multi-point harnesses. This 959-style rally car was acquired by the selling dealer in 2021 and is now offered at no reserve in California with manufacturer’s literature, a radio headset, and a clean Utah title.

The car received 959-style fiberglass bodywork and was refinished in yellow before being vinyl-wrapped in blue and white with a #185 Rothmans-style livery under previous ownership. Roof-mounted beacon lights were installed at that time, and the drip rails have been shaved. Further exterior details include Lexan headlight covers and sliding side windows as well as a basket handle rear wing, roof-mounted brake lights, hood and hatch pins, mud guards, and dual exhaust outlets.

White-finished 16″ Braid wheels are mounted with 215/70 Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires, while a space-saver spare is stored in the front trunk. The suspension was reportedly modified and lifted with Elephant Racing components under previous ownership. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel ventilated disc brakes.

The cockpit houses twin Recaro-style racing seats trimmed in black cloth and equipped with expired red Corbeau multi-point harnesses. An Autopower bolt-in roll cage has been installed, and appointments include an AM/FM cassette stereo, a heater, and fabric door pulls.

The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of VDO instrumentation that consists of a 150-mph speedometer, a centrally mounted tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 149k miles, a few hundred of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 3.2-liter flat-six is said to have been sourced from a 1986 Carrera and installed in 2021.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.

The selling dealer states that the car has not been inspected by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair and has not passed a California emissions test since the engine swap. The current Utah title is listed as corrected.
