This 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was mechanically and cosmetically refurbished before it was previously sold on BaT in January 2023. Work included retrofitting a 350ci V8 GM Performance Ram Jet linked with a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission, installing a twin-stick dual-range transfer case and ARB air lockers, refinishing the exterior in green, and modifying the suspension. The truck is equipped with 15″ Pro Comp wheels, power steering, manually locking front hubs, four-wheel disc brakes, Corbeau seats, Vintage Air A/C and heat, a bolt-in roll cage, a Man-A-Fre front bumper, and a Warn winch with a built-in air compressor. This modified FJ40 is offered on dealer consignment in California with a clean Montana title.
The truck was repainted in Rustic Green with a white top during the refurbishment. Additional work included finishing the headlight bezel, bumpers, hood hooks, side mirrors, and rear diamond-plate corners in black as well as applying a black bedliner material to the underside of the body. A Man-A-Fre front bumper with a brush guard houses a 9.5k-lb Warn Powerplant Dual Force HP winch.
Polished 15″ Pro Comp wheels are mounted with 33×10.5″ BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 tires. A matching spare is stored on the rear-mounted carrier. The truck is equipped with Warn manually locking front hubs, power steering, and four-wheel disc brakes. A 2.5″ Man-A-Fre Safari suspension lift is fitted, and additional modifications include a front shackle reverse kit and Rancho RS9000 shocks.
The Corbeau front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in black vinyl and were installed during the refurbishment, which also included applying body-color bedliner material to the floors. Equipment includes a bolt-in roll cage, Vintage Air climate control, a Lokar floor shifter, and manual crank windows.
The three-spoke Grant GT steering wheel is mounted to an aftermarket tilting steering column and frames a 100-mph speedometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit odometer on the 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 shows 49k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 350ci V8 GM Performance Ram Jet was installed during the refurbishment and is equipped with electronic fuel injection, an aluminum radiator, an open-element air filter, exhaust headers, a replacement wiring harness, and polished valve covers. The battery was replaced in October 2022.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a retrofitted 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission and a twin-stick dual-range transfer case. An ARB single onboard air compressor and ARB front and rear air lockers have been fitted. The frame was power-coated during the refurbishment.
