331-Powered 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback Race Car

This 1965 Ford Mustang fastback was acquired by its owner in 1990 already having been converted to a race car, and it has since been used in competition events. In 2008 the car was substantially overhauled by Dave Dralle of Dralle Engineering, and it is powered by an alloy 331ci stroker V8 claimed to produce ~560 horsepower and linked to a four-speed manual and a Detroit locker. The Wimbledon White fastback has R-style details outside and 15″ PS Engineering wheels, and it rides on a modified suspension with Koni shocks and uprated brakes. The cabin has been stripped, and the driver is provided a roll bar, a Kirkey race seat, and additional safety equipment. Since the 2008 rebuild the car has competed in multiple historical events, scoring wins in B Production and GT Production classes for VARA, HSR, and SVRA at tracks including Sonoma, Willow Springs, and Laguna Seca. This Mustang race car is now offered on dealer consignment with a clean California title.

The car was ordered in Wimbledon White, and the selling dealer tells us that in 2008 Dave Dralle worked the fenders to accommodate the 8″-wide front and 9″-wide rear wheels. Secured by pins, the fiberglass hood has a scoop, and side scoops and an R-style front valance were also added. The wipers and headlights have been removed.

The suspension has been modified with competition front springs, narrow rear leaf springs, a Panhard bar, adjustable front strut rods, a front sway bar, export and Monte Carlo braces, and Koni dampers. The brakes were also uprated with a dual-circuit master cylinder, ’66 Lincoln front calipers and rotors, and 11″ Galaxie drums out back.

The staggered 15″ PS Engineering wheels are mounted with Hoosier slicks.

The stripped interior has a roll bar, a Kirkey race seat, a harness, a camera mount, and safety nets. An electrical control box with toggles is mounted on the transmission tunnel along with the lever for the fire suppression system.

Stewart-Warner gauges have been added along with a leather-wrapped wheel mounted on a quick-release hub and a Hurst shifter.

A fuel cell and the battery have been mounted in the trunk, and the hour meter displays 280.6 hours with hand-written dates.

Dave Dralle built the alloy 302ci V8 with a Sony Bryant crankshaft, Carrillo connecting rods, and forged pistons. The resulting displacement is 331ci, and the engine is claimed to produce ~560 horsepower. The engine has ~11 hours of competition use on the current refresh. Work in preparation for the sale included adjusting the valves as well as replacing the battery and valve cover gaskets.

A four-speed Jericho manual transmission is linked to a Detroit locker rear end with 3.80 gears. The dual exhaust system has a cross-over pipe and dumps ahead of hte rear axle.

Event stickers have been applied around the windshield.

The selling dealer tells us that the car has achieved the following class wins:
