This 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB is a running and driving project that was acquired in California by the current owner in 1998, and it is powered by a 2.9-liter quad-cam V8 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Finished in Rosso Chiaro over Nero leather upholstery, the car has a limited-slip differential, 16″ Gotti alloy wheels, pop-up headlights, a quad-exit exhaust system, a gated shifter, and electric windows. The car runs and moves under its own power, but requires brake work and service before regular road use. This 308 GTB project shows 71k miles and is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with a clean California title.
The 308 GTB was introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show and featured Pininfarina-styled bodywork. The car is finished in Rosso Chiaro over and features pop-up headlights, Vitaloni Baby Bravo side mirrors, Scuderia Ferrari fender decals, a vented decklid, and quad exhaust outlets. The right-front turn signal lens is cracked, there are paint imperfections and blemishes on the front end, checking paint is visible on the right quarter panel, and additional photos of the exterior condition are presented in the gallery below.
The 16″ multi-piece Gotti wheels feature gold accents and are mounted with staggered-width mixed-brand tires. The car features a fully independent suspension with double wishbones front and rear, and stopping power is provided by ventilated discs at each corner. The selling dealer tells us the brake pedal is soft and the braking system would benefit from repairs.
The cockpit features bolstered seats trimmed in Nero leather upholstery along with matching door panels. Equipment includes a push-button digital stereo, electric windows, and a gated shifter with a dogleg gear pattern. The driver’s seat upholstery has been replaced, and additional photos of the interior condition and wear on the passenger’s seat are viewable in the gallery below.
The leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel fronts Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a 180-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,700-rpm redline, and supplementary gauges. Additional readouts are mounted ahead of the shifter. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles, a handful of which were added under current ownership. The car has not passed a California emissions test.
The mid-mounted 2.9L quad-cam V8 is equipped with four twin-choke Weber 40DCNF carburetors and was factory rated at 237 horsepower.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The selling dealer states the car will require inspection and servicing before road use. The car is not currently registered.
