This 2018 Bugatti Chiron is one of 500 examples of all types produced between 2016 and 2023, and it was formerly owned by two-time undisputed super middleweight boxing champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The car is finished in Atlantic Blue and French Blue, and power comes from a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 with four valves per cylinder that sends a factory-rated 1,479 horsepower to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a Haldex traction-control system. The car is equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes with French Blue-painted calipers, staggered-width Caractere wheels with Atlantic Blue accents, and a rear wing with a French Blue underside. Inside, the carbon-fiber Comfort seats are trimmed in Lake Blue and French Racing Blue leather. Further equipment includes automatic climate control, navigation, and a seven-speaker Accuton stereo with satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity. This Chiron has 2,200 miles and is now offered on dealer consignment in Newbury Park, California, with a window sticker, a key presentation box, a battery charger, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title.
The Chiron was the successor to the 2005-to-2015 Veyron and was introduced at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Construction comprises a carbon-fiber monocoque passenger cell and rear structure. This example is finished in Atlantic Blue with French Blue, doors, coves, and forward body panels. A plaque mounted in the front trunk notes that this paint scheme is a tribute to Bugatti’s Vision Gran Turismo concept.
Features include an Atlantic Blue-painted horseshoe grille and front splitter as well as an exposed carbon-fiber diffuser and mirror caps. The rear wing has a French Blue-painted underside.
The staggered-width Caractere wheels were a $62k option and feature a diamond-cut finish with Atlantic Blue and Bugatti center caps. They measure 20″ up front and 21″ at the rear, and are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Stopping power is provided by eight-piston front and six-piston rear titanium calipers finished in French Blue over 420mm front and 400mm rear carbon-ceramic rotors.
The cockpit features carbon-fiber Comfort seats trimmed in Lake Blue leather with French Racing Blue inserts. French Blue leather trims the dashboard and door panels, while Lake Blue leather covers the headliner and rear bulkhead, which also features a cockpit divider that reaches from the windshield to the center armrest. Additional equipment includes carbon-fiber and aluminum trim, automatic climate control, navigation, and a seven-speaker Accuton stereo with satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity. The selling dealer states that a four-year Sirius satellite radio subscription is included in the sale.
The multi-function flat-bottom steering wheel features exposed carbon-fiber and French Racing Blue leather trim. It fronts polished aluminum paddle shifters and a 300-mph analog speedometer with an inset digital speed readout flanked by two digital screens. The digital odometer on this Bugatti Chiron shows 2,200 miles.
The Volkswagen-designed 8.0-liter W16 is based on the unit found in the Veyron and was updated for the Chiron to produce 1,479 horsepower. The engine utilizes a single crankshaft shared by two cylinder banks set at a 90° angle, with each bank consisting of eight cylinders set in a 15° V configuration. Each bank is topped by a single cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts operating four valves per cylinder. Four turbochargers push air through two intercoolers into twin intake manifolds, while the duplex fuel injection system utilizes 32 injectors. Bugatti claims a 0-62-mph time of 2.4 seconds for the Chiron as well as a top speed of 261 mph.
Power is sent to all four wheels through a Ricardo seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, a front Borg-Warner torque transfer differential, and a rear axle with a transverse differential lock via Haldex electronic control. Both the engine and gearbox feature dry-sump lubrication with individual oil coolers that are among a total of 10 heat exchangers, the other eight of which handle the engine coolant, intercoolers, rear differential, and air-conditioning system. Scrapes on the underside of the front splitter can be seen in the gallery
