This 1978 Porsche 911SC Targa is powered by a 3.0-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Guards Red over black leatherette upholstery. It is equipped with a removable roof panel, 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels, fog lights, power windows, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt in 2001, and the car was previously sold on BaT in July 2020. This 911SC Targa is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with owner’s manuals, two keys, a tool kit, spare parts, and a California title.
The car was factory-finished in Guards Red (027) and was repainted under prior ownership. Exterior details include body-color mirror caps and a black Targa bar and removable roof panel as well as fog lights, a power antenna, a heated rear window, and rear bumperettes.
Fuchs 16″ wheels with black-finished centers and color-crest center caps are mounted with 205/55 front and 225/50 rear Falken Ziex ZE512 tires that have 2006 and 2008 production-date codes. Braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and the calipers, hoses, rotors, and pads were replaced in 2019.
The front bucket seats are upholstered in black leatherette, and the dashboard, door panels, and rear seats are trimmed to match. Additional appointments include power windows, a heater and defroster, Porsche-script carpeted floor mats, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM/cassette stereo.
The leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel frames a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline as well as a 150-mph speedometer, a clock, and gauges for oil level, oil temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer on this Porsche 911SC Targa shows 142k miles.
The 3.0-liter flat-six features Bosch fuel injection and was factory rated at 172 horsepower and 189 lb-ft of torque. A rebuild was carried out in 2001 with Mahle pistons and cylinders as well as replacement cylinder-head studs, camshafts, rocker shafts and seals, valves, and guides. The fuel-injection distributor head was rebuilt in 2020, and the fuel injectors, valve-cover gaskets, and catalytic converter were replaced at that time.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle that was rebuilt in 2001. A replacement clutch kit was installed at that time.
Owner’s manuals will accompany the car along with two keys, a tool kit, and spare parts.
