This 1967 Volkswagen Type 3 fastback is believed to have been sold new in California and spent approximately four decades with its previous owner, who performed a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment reportedly spanning their ownership. The car is finished in Pearl White over black vinyl upholstery and is powered by an air-cooled “Pancake” 1.6L flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional details include 15″ steel wheels, Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, front disc brakes, European-specification taillight lenses and headlight assemblies, pop-out quarter windows, and bumper-mounted reverse lights in addition to a Sapphire V push-button AM radio, retractable front lap belts, dual Solex carburetors, and a Tri-Mil merged header single quiet pack exhaust system. Acquired by the current owner in 2019, this Type 3 is now offered on dealer consignment with a tool roll, a collection of literature, spare parts, and a clean California title.

The car left the factory finished in Pearl White (L87) and was repainted as part of the refurbishment under previous ownership. The car has been fitted with European-specification taillight lenses and headlight assemblies, and additional exterior details include dual side mirrors, pop-out quarter windows, louvered quarter panels, and bumper-mounted reverse lights. Dual-tone 15″ steel wheels wear chrome VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with 155-series front and 175/70 rear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

Said to have been refurbished by Westminster Auto Upholstery of Anaheim, California, with materials from TMI Products, the interior features seating surfaces and door panels trimmed in black vinyl upholstery joined by charcoal carpeting, a white headliner, and a replacement dashboard pad. Additional interior elements include hand-crank windows, retractable front lap belts, passenger grab handles, a Sapphire V push-button AM radio, and a fold-down rear armrest.

The two-spoke steering wheel wears a chrome horn ring with a Wolfsburg crest center cap and frames a trio of VDO instrumentation consisting of a 100-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 17k miles. The selling dealer states the odometer is not accurate, and true mileage is unknown.

The front trunk houses the fuel tank, brake fluid reservoir, jack, and a full-size spare.

The air-cooled “Pancake” 1.6L flat-four is accessible via a hatch in the rear cargo area and is equipped with dual Solex carburetors. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. A Tri-Mil merged header single quiet pack exhaust system has been installed, and maintenance performed in August 2024 included cleaning the carburetors and performing an oil change.
