This 1964 Morgan Plus 4 is a left-hand-drive example that was acquired in North Carolina in 1982 by the previous owner, who also had the car in New York and England before selling it on BaT in May 2021 to the current owner. The vehicle has been repainted in red, and the current owner had the seats reupholstered in tan leather and the steering wheel refurbished. Powered by a 2,138cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the car is equipped with dual Stromberg carburetors, PerTronix electronic ignition, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a tan soft top, side curtains, a top boot, a teak wood dashboard, lap belts, and a luggage rack. This Plus 4 is now offered on dealer consignment in California at no reserve with a clean Florida title in the owner’s name.
Originally finished in British Racing Green, the car was repainted blue in 1982 and received a body-off repaint in its current shade of red in 1997, according to the prior owner. The brightwork was refreshed and a removable luggage rack has been added. Equipment includes Lucas tri-bar headlamps, a badge bar, a fixed windscreen, running boards, a flip-up fuel cap, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Imperfections in the tan soft top and the leather hood strap are pictured in the gallery below.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels with two-eared knockoffs were installed in 2019 and are mounted with 165/80 Nexen SB-802 tires. A Michelin XZX spare is affixed to the rear of the car. Braking is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The two-passenger cabin features seating that was retrimmed in tan leather under current ownership. Appointments include a replacement teak dashboard, lap belts, door-panel pockets, and a storage compartment in the dash. The carpeting is worn.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel was refurbished under current ownership. Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 19k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added under current ownership; true mileage is unknown. The temperature gauge is inoperative.
The Triumph-sourced 2,138cc inline-four has been fitted with PerTronix electronic ignition, dual Stromberg carburetors, an aluminum fuel tank, and a replacement fuel system. Air cleaners are not fitted. The engine was rebuilt by V-12 Motorsports of Indian Trail, North Carolina, in 2018.
The “CT”-prefix engine stamping is shown above.
Power is dispatched to the rear wheels via a Moss four-speed manual gearbox. The clutch was replaced and the flywheel resurfaced in 2018. The frame has been refinished and fitted with stainless-steel fasteners.
