1964 Amphicar Model 770

This 1964 Amphicar Model 770 is finished in red over red and white vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 1,147cc Triumph inline-four mated to a two-part manual gearbox delivering four forward speeds and reverse on land along with forward and reverse to the twin propellers. Additional equipment includes a white soft top, 13” wheels, chrome bumpers, marine navigation lights, dual bilge pumps, air horns, and a Sony AM/FM/CD stereo. This Amphicar was acquired by the owner on BaT in August 2023 and is now offered on dealer consignment in California with replacement fiberglass body panels and a clean Florida title.

The car is finished in red and features a white soft top, chrome bumpers, hood locks, marine navigation lights, a nautical horn, a louvered engine cover, and a single exhaust outlet exiting through the tail panel. A fiberglass hood has been installed, and adhesive residue is visible around its perimeter. Rust is present on the fenders, doors, and quarter panels, portions of which are covered with adhesive tape.

White-finished 13” steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with 185/60 BFGoodrich Silvertown Radial whitewall tires. The front wheels serve as rudders when the car is afloat, and braking while on the ground is handled by hydraulic drums at all four corners. The left-rear axle carrier bearing is said to have been replaced under prior ownership.

The cabin features a split front bench, a rear bench, and door panels trimmed in two-tone red and white vinyl. Black rubber covers the floors, and additional appointment include a Sony AM/FM/CD stereo, a heater, door-sealing locks, and dual bilge pumps. A fire extinguisher is mounted under the dash, and air horns have been added in the front trunk. Pitting is visible on the instrument bezels, which are shown up close in the gallery.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames Moto Meter instrumentation consisting of a 90-mph speedometer flanked by a clock and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 5k miles, a handful of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The rear-mounted 1,147cc Standard Triumph SC inline-four was factory rated at 43 horsepower and 61 lb-ft of torque.

Power is sent to the rear wheels, the dual nylon propellers, or both through a two-part Hermes transmission with a four-speed manual gearbox driving the wheels and an integrated two-speed gearbox with forward and reverse gears for the propellers. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery.

Replacement fiberglass body panels will accompany the vehicle.
