This 1956 Porsche 356A coupe was completed on October 1, 1956, and is said to have spent over three decades in storage before undergoing a three-year refurbishment that was completed in 2021. Work involved a repaint in the factory shade of silver, a re-trim of the interior in red leather, and an overhaul of the replacement 1.6-liter flat-four. Additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transaxle, silver-painted 15″ steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, four-wheel drum brakes, beehive taillights, and front and rear bumperettes. The car was previously listed on Bring a Trailer in March 2023 and was recently acquired by the selling dealer. This 356A coupe is now offered at no reserve with refurbishment records, a Porsche Production Specifications sheet, an owner’s manual, a tool kit, and a California title.
The Reutter body was originally finished in Silver Metallic (5606) and was repainted by SV Auto of Ontario, California in 2021. Bodywork prior to the repaint involved replacement of the floor pans, front and rear inner fenders, battery box, left rocker panel, and inner front hood frame. The body seals, windshield, bumpers, and various trim pieces were also replaced during the project. Exterior features include body-color bumpers with bumperettes, quad beehive taillights, a single-grille decklid, square-edge door handles, a driver-side mirror, and gold-color badging.

The cabin was reupholstered during the refurbishment and features red leather over the front bucket seats, fold-down rear bench, door panels, and dash. Additional features include beige square-weave carpeting, black rubber floor mats, black lap belts, leather rear luggage straps, a Porsche-branded radio blanking plate, a dash-mounted ashtray, and a lockable glovebox.
The re-cast ivory-color steering wheel sits ahead of green-letter VDO instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 77k miles, and total mileage is unknown. The instruments were refurbished by North Hollywood Speedometer in 2018.
The replacement 1.6-liter flat-four was overhauled during the refurbishment with replacement Mahle pistons and cylinders, rod and crankshaft bearings, valves, and valve guides, springs, and seats. The crankshaft and camshaft were reground at that time, while the lifters and flywheel were resurfaced and the distributor, generator, starter, and Solex 32 PCIB carburetors were overhauled.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a dual-mount four-speed manual transaxle that was fitted with replacement synchros, bearings, and gaskets during the refurbishment. A Danske muffler was also fitted.
