1955 MG TF 1500 for Charity

This 1955 MG TF 1500 was dispatched to the United States in November 1954, and it was refurbished around 2005 under prior ownership. The current owner acquired the car around 2015 and subsequently commissioned work on the steering and electrical systems as well as the engine and the transmission. Finished in black with a tan soft top over red leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 1.5-liter XPEG inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, driving lights, a folding windshield, Brooklands windscreens, a banjo-style steering wheel, and a tonneau cover. This TF 1500 is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve in California with records from current ownership, a workshop manual, side curtains, a tool kit, a BMIHT certificate, and a Florida title. All proceeds from the auction—including the BaT buyer’s fee—will go to the National WWII Museum, a 501(c)(3) organization with a museum in New Orleans, Louisiana, that “tells the story of the American experience in the war that changed the world”. The museum is also offering to the winning bidder a complimentary two-day, docent-led tour of their facility in New Orleans.

Originally Ivory in color, the car has been repainted in black and is equipped with a tan soft top. Additional features include chrome bumpers as well as running boards, rear-hinged doors, a folding windshield, Brooklands windscreens, wind wings, a driver-side mirror, headlight screens, driving lights, and a quick-release fuel cap.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels with knock-off hubs are mounted with Michelin XZX tires measuring 165SR15, and a matching spare is affixed to the rear of the car. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums. Work performed by D.L. George Historic Motorcars of Cochranville, Pennsylvania, between December 2017 and January 2018 involved reshimming the spindles and replacing the steering-rack boots. The brakes were adjusted, the brake fluid was flushed, and the jam nuts were replaced in June 2024.

The cabin features low-back bucket seats trimmed in red leather that are complemented by a color-coordinated dash pad and door panels. Interior appointments include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger grab handle, dual dashboard storage compartments, and door-panel map pockets.

The banjo-style steering wheel fronts Jaeger instrumentation consisting of a 105-mph speedometer with an inset clock, a tachometer, and a combination gauge for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 66k miles; true mileage is unknown. The turn-signal wiring was repaired in 2018.

The 1.5-liter XPEG inline-four is equipped with dual SU carburetors for a factory rating of 63 horsepower and 76 lb-ft of torque. In 2017–2018, D.L. George Historic Motorcars adjusted the valves and the engine support rod, cleaned and oiled the carburetors, and replaced the thermostat gasket, the spark plugs, and the negative battery cable. The engine oil and filter were serviced and the water pump was greased in June 2024.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. D.L. George adjusted the clutch and replaced the synchros for first and second gear as well as the tail-shaft bearing and seal in 2017–2018. The differential was serviced in June 2024.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory equipment, colors, serial numbers, and production dates.

Upon completion of the auction, the winning bidder will pay the selling dealer directly, who will then donate the total sale amount to the National WWII Museum, a 501(c)(3) organization.
