In the June 2024 issue of Sports Car Market magazine, Daren Kloes dives into the importance of strong visual presentation in online auctions. We were honored to see our photography featured throughout the piece. The star? Our stunning metallic beige Mercedes-Benz 190SL – professionally photographed in the WOB Cars studio in Thousand Oaks, CA. The car was listed with no reserve on Bring a Trailer and sold for $238,000.

Daren puts it perfectly in Sports Car Market Magazine when he says, “It’s about capturing the car’s essence and creating an emotional connection with potential buyers. It could mean the difference between boom and bust when the final hammer falls.”
That’s how we see it here at WOB Cars and part of our story in getting started. In a sea full of cars, how can we get potential buyers to stop scrolling? You can have a wonderful vehicle that’s been beautifully maintained. It might actually be the best example on the planet. But none of that matters if it’s not clearly and credibly captured in its presentation.
It’s tempting to whip out your cell phone and snap plenty of pictures in just a few minutes. But, in a world where empty parking lot cell phone photoshoots reign as the status quo, putting cars on the pedestal they deserve can make a real difference in stopping potential buyers from scrolling right by. Not only does it better capture the true value and condition of the car but, it also says: “I care enough about my car to make sure it’s sold right.” That means something to potential buyers. In my mind, that says you probably also took good care of your vehicle and serviced it whenever needed.
As car enthusiasts ourselves, we capture cars from the perspective of what we’d LOVE to see in an online auction. We get that there’s not a total substitute for seeing a car with your own eyes but, our goal is to be the closest thing to that – from creating that initial emotional spark of interest to accurately capturing condition all around.
