The twilight years of the forties stamp themselves into the American automotive history books as the beginning of hotrod heydays. Young soldiers had returned from war and with their pockets flush with cash in an abundantly rich economy they were able to afford to tinker with toys, and hotrodding took root. Soon to arrive on our auction block is a first class example of a 1922 Ford Model T that was reborn in 1948 as a dirt track racing roadster. For six years this Model T toured the tracks of California, sometimes piloted by Chuck Hulse, later a notable Indy car driver. Put into storage during the middle of the1950s for thirty years it stayed in hibernation.
After its recovery, the Model T was then placed on museum display by the owner previous to our seller. RM Sotheby’s sold the Model T to our current owner in 2016 and entrusted it to none other than Jimmy Shine for a massive restoration project. The roadster retains an authentic livery and most of the mechanical equipment originally out of the 1950s, but with a few small improvements. Recently featured in the famous hotrod and custom car magazine Hop Up, the chance to own a profound piece of early American racing history is nigh. Next week the auction begins so get on your marks and get set to go!
