Our auction on the 1922 Ford Model T that was converted into a dirt track roadster in 1948 closed yesterday, unfortunately without reaching the bid reserve. Instead of relisting the sale, our current owner has decided to charitably donate the vintage racer to the Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska. Inside the massive complex resides a vast and prominent collection of fast American hotrods, dragsters, muscle cars, and many more. Each one honored for its contribution to making the wheels turn faster throughout America’s automotive history.
The Model T roadster, sometimes driven by USAC Championship Car series driver Chuck Hulse, will find a place of recognition there having spent six years of its life touring dirt tracks around California during the early 1950s. A one hundred hour restoration was recently performed on the Model T after being pulled out of a thirty-year hibernation and then museum tour, so it is in beautiful display condition. The restoration was conducted by the competent and capable hands of Jimmy Shine, a maven in the field of hotrods, and thus was firmly kept within period-specific modifications and bodywork. This fabulous Ford is an excellent example of how hotrodding came to life after the second world war using inexpensive and widely available automotive parts to enhance the performance of even ordinary cars greatly. We hope that many enjoy learning of its proud history within the realm of America’s fast fifties.
