Flying Onto the Auction Block Next Week – 1956 Messerschmitt KR175 Project

For those that do not know, Messerschmitt used to produced airplanes, specifically during the second world war. Postwar, the occupying forces prohibited Messerschmitt from aircraft production, so in that stead, they turned to automobiles. The KR175 was their first automobile (truly a scooter with a cabin) and was largely a work-in-progress for the company. Their ongoing development is much like our upcoming auction as it is currently an incomplete project. Purchased on Bring A Trailer in 2013, the current owner had the body repainted in a metallic silver after performing some bodywork was and installing new whitewall tires on all three wheels. Included with the sale are the main body, the 175cc air-cooled Sachs motor (which was previously rebuilt but never installed) with electric starter, and a mixture of spare and uninstalled parts. Included in those parts are the convertible top and the fixed hardtop with plexiglass windows. Although the KR175 was a tandem two-seater, there is only one seat provided with this investment. Also included with purchase is a “to-do” list that almost comprehensively covers the remaining items needed to complete the restoration work. In total, speculation estimates that less than 20,000 of these were produced (perhaps far less) – this being one of the last ever produced before a model replacement. So if you’re eager to enter in the ultra-exclusive German microcar market with the opportunity to make the project your own, this is opportunity knocking!
