“It’s like an AMG before AMG existed,” shares Car and Driver’s Brendan McAleer in a recent post about our 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Coupe.
Finished in a beautiful Burgundy Red with a Light Beige roof, the car is equipped with 14″ Bundt wheels, a Becker stereo, Euro headlights, and driving lamps.
We’re always thrilled to see one of our vehicles featured. This car in particular represents so much that we love about the car world. “Period hot rodding at its best on the 60’s Autobahn beast!” shared Robert Dietz, WOB Cars’ founder and owner. “Have always adored the ‘if they had made it’ mentality and this is just perfect for that. That big Grosser motor in the big SE!”
Car and Driver captures it perfectly as “the ideal 1960s Mercedes Grand Tourer that Mercedes never built.” The 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Coup features a powerful 6.3-liter V-8 engine.
A previous owner chimed in on the auction reminiscing on his ownership of the vehicle between 1996 through 2017.
The interior was reupholstered in January 2024, including re-trimming the low-back front bucket seats, dash, and rear bench in burgundy leather. The wood trim was refinished and the carpets, package tray, and floor mats were replaced.
