A Micro BMW Coming to Auction Next Week – 1960 BMW 600

Soon to be selling is a museum-kept example of BMWs venture into the microcar community during the 1950s and 1960s. Beginning with the Isetta 300 in 1956, BMW quickly recognized the success small cars could have in post-war Germany. Rationalizing that a slightly larger four-seater would likely be popular, they began work on the 600. Ultimately the 600 was not as triumphant in sales as its smaller sibling, making the 600 version a far rarer sight to see in modern times since production was canceled after only three years.

As mentioned above, the soon-to-be-sold 600 we have was kept in an automotive museum from 1998 until 2015 when it was purchased at auction. As such, it has been well maintained and cared for by the curators and current owner. During a repainting, the original lighting and emblems have been kept, and the paint color is commensurate with the original color. This 600 is completely numbers matching (chassis, transmission, and motor) and only 150 miles ago (odometer was reset) underwent restoration of the interior and exterior. In totality, less than 35,000 600 were produced and sold by BMW and fewer remain now due to attrition of the ages. Beginning next week the microcar from Munich is available for bidding, so do not let this opportunity slip away.
