Canyon Carving Carrera Soon to Sale – 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera

Two years before the replacement of the original 911 platform, Porsche introduced a select amount of changes to finish off its current iteration of 911 called the Carrera. The swan-song Carrera itself launched in 1984 and was more powerful, smoother, and better equipped for performance driving than almost all 911s before. 217 horsepower, larger brakes, and the gifted G50 transmission by 1987 were the meisterstuck modifications absolutely pulling it into a realm of its own. Today, the final years of the Carrera models are not only the most resilient but the most competent. Plainly put, the basic factory updates and standard performance capabilities make them some of the most desirable on the market. Soon to be auctioned off by us is a nicely kept and tastefully modified example of just such a Carrera.

Wearing the striking Diamond Blue hue, as seen on the 25th Commemorative Editions a year later, paint tests in forty different places prove originality throughout most of the car’s finish. Outward enhancements are minimalistic, such as the lower European ride height and dual exhaust tips, but they do wonders to distinguish this Carrera from the crowd. Fifteen52 Outlaw 001 16” wheels coated in semi-gloss black paint pleasantly match the standard black exterior trim crafting an aggressive, business-forward approach without brutish overstatement.

Inside the Porsche, dark blue leather fully covers the seats and partially wraps the door paneling. Coordinating blue carpeting and vinyl covers other tactile areas such as door pulls and dashboard panels. A factory three-spoke club sport steering wheel with centralized Porsche crest from a 911 Turbo was installed along with an aftermarket leather-wrapped Momo sports shift knob. A later-model Porsche stereo (Becker Monza) with CD player replaces the original Blaupunkt Reno unit and is accompanied by an amplifier mounted in the trunk compartment.

The 3.2-liter Carrera motor, known for its endearing durability and ample power has been revamped to European Carrera specifications for increased horsepower and torque. Many other smart modifications lie within the engine and the suspension components to move this Carrera quickly around road rallies. For those looking at stock Carrera models, the owner assures us that any reusable components that were removed for upgraded parts are provided with the sale. In total, 164,000-miles rest on the odometer and the auction goes live soon. So those looking for a smartly modified Porsche that still retains original aesthetics get ready!
