When Rally Car Meets Rotary: Our Renault R5 Turbo Makes Headlines

Road & Track just spotlighted one of our most unique vehicles – a Renault R5 Turbo that breaks all the rules in the best possible way. This isn’t just any R5 Turbo (which would’ve been exciting enough alone.) This is a one-of-a-kind creation that pairs French rally car attitude with Japanese rotary soul.

Not Your Average Engine Swap

The Renault R5 Turbo already stands out in any crowd. It’s a mid-engine rally beast disguised as a hot hatch. But this one kind of takes things to a whole new level. In 2007, this R5 was transformed with a turbocharged Mazda 13B two-rotor engine.

Want to keep your options open? The original Renault engine comes along for the ride to as noted by Road & Track. The buyer can make the car 100% stock again if they’d like as $50,000 worth of OEM parts were included – making it perfect for drivers and collectors alike.

WOB Cars founder and owner, Robert Dietz, shared his excitement in the comments, “Driving this around town might as well be driving a Veyron burping flames. If you want to know who the car guys are, go ANYWHERE with this outrageously built Turbo 2 and see them all come running. It is super fun to drive and built beautifully.”

A New Home

Our auction has since closed, and the Renault found a new home moments after. This is exactly the kind of machine that gets us at WOB Cars excited. If you have a unique vehicle and are looking to pass on the keys, reach out to our team!
