1979 BMW Alpina B8 Auction Ends Without a Winner!

Considering how few Alpina-modified BMWs are manufactured each year, and especially in light of how scarce the seventies and eighties versions are in the United States (as they were not imported here) it greatly surprised us to see this auctions reserve not met this week. This B8 was a lightly modified and raced model that still retained a perfectly traditional exterior repainted in its original light metallic blue plus silver Alpina graphics were added. Plus, the original fabric bucket seats with blue and green striping showed relatively little wear. The dashboard, steering wheel, shift knob, and all other interior items aside from an aftermarket radio head unit remained unaltered, as is ideal. Privately imported in 1985, the B8 was retained by one owner until the 2000s and had been well maintained by all proprietary parties after.

The 240 horsepower 3.3-liter straight-six still pulled effortlessly to the six-and-a-half thousand rpm redline, and the top end was once rebuilt with new timing chains. An Accusump oiling system, oil separator, springs and shocks, and an electronic ignition system were just a handful of the smart modifications the original owner performed for racing and regular maintenance updates. The five-speed manual transmission was also rebuilt, which further confers their resolve for continual upkeep. Although the actual mileage of the Alpina is unknown due to several instrument gauge failures, almost all of the servicing invoices are present or recorded. The original owner also listed in a 6” binder any additional work, fluids, or repairs they performed during their nearly twenty years of ownership. If you are still interested in the Alpina and want to capitalize on an extraordinarily rare important from the eighties that has a letter of authenticity from Alpina, DOT and EPA certifications, a clean California title, and enough service records to make anyone feel safe, then please contact us about this unbelievable Alpina!
