In a strange turn of events, our BMW 600 closed its auction this week without reaching its reservation. However, the seller was content enough with the final bid of $26,500 (plus fees) and after the gavel had slammed reached out to us about his approval of the price, and we were able to arrange the sale with the highest bidder after hours. That makes for a great day for two car enthusiasts!
This 600 was a near-pristine example of BMWs biggest microcar during the 1950s, having been well-kept in a museum and the previous owner’s private collection since 1998. A recent restoration breathed new life into the original red and white paintwork and a set of Dunlop tires were fitted just before the first auction in 2014. At the time of this restorative work, the interior fabrics and paneling were redone. Red tweed fabric that converges into white vinyl at the headrest was upholstered onto the front and rear seats and adorns the headliner and door paneling to create an authentically fifties cabin appearance and feel. The engine and transmission number plates both correspond to the chassis number stamped on the frame making it mechanically original. Even better than that is the original black Californian license plate that was provided with the sale. We are ecstatic for both the new owner and the previous owner and wish them both happy motoring!
