Closing at a final bid of $27,072 (plus fees), our 1958 BMW 600 rolls off the auction block and into a new and happy owner’s garage. The BMW 600, as a whole, represents a unique time in BMW’s heritage as well as an opportunity to own a novel, low-production volume fifties car. Less than 35,000 600s were made between 1957 and 1959 as part of BMWs attempt to cultivate an audience in the niche microcar market flourishing in post-war Germany. Our example is an uncommon representation of the original offering. A recent repaint to red and white on the 600 we sold was just the icing on the proverbial cake. A previous owner had the car undergo a complete mechanical rebuild including the engine, transmission, harmonic dampener and later much of the suspension and brake system were replaced with new parts. The interior was entirely original with the red and white vinyl bench seats still untarnished with use. Only 1,250 miles were put on the 600 after the rebuilding, so the engine is still fresh, and so are the tires that are strapped on to the 10” polished steel wheels. Knowing that this would be a hot seller, the no-longer-current owner performed an oil change with a filter replacement and had the brakes adjusted. Sure enough, the sale went quickly, and we hope that the new owner enjoys many cherished miles in their new BMW!
